Wolfsbane [MIA Case Files 1]
Brandon Ellison is a harder character to warm up to. For Brandon, everything has hinged around that first failed mission.

His disability and his loss of Oliver has consumed his life. There are quite a few flashbacks but the uneven timeline just works against the story instead of for it because of the jerky manner in which it is handled. The flashbacks here just serve to break up any momentum the story had built to date. The narrative structure consistently diffused any sense of danger or dread in the events happening around the main characters, and any sense of being connected to the characters and their situation just dwindled away. That just makes my head hurt, especially the last, long sentence and the entire book reads that way.

Bring it on but make it believable or at least entertaining. Make me want to lose myself in the events happening on the pages instead wanting to put the book down unfinished. Rating: 2. Here is an example. Like this: Like Loading Post to Cancel. Post was not sent - check your email addresses! Sorry, your blog cannot share posts by email. Yet, he refuses to accept that what happened was an accident; he refuses to take responsibility for his actions and instead seeks to lay blame on Oliver.
Give me a break! Following the accident, Brandon punished Oliver in the cruelest way by taking off without a word. He refused to talk to Oliver and rejected his tearful apologies. Then, seven years later Brandon Mr. Sadly, he's still trying to lay blame where it doesn't belong.
Brandon is the epitome of an egotistical, selfish, prick. Frankly, I do not find him heroic in the least. But okay, I'll roll with it because he'll obviously see the error of his ways Oh happy day!!! But my reprieve was short lived because about 2 minutes later, Oliver was begging Brandon's forgiveness and telling him he loved him. Uh, no that wasn't a typo: Oliver. That was it for me. I couldn't take it.
Therefore, Oliver's undying love and devotion ultimately irked me because it rendered him a fool.
It was a bust all the way around. Hence, why I'm especially pissy. Couple side notes: 1. Ick factor: The freaking dirty elevator was a recurring theme that frankly grossed me out. I mean, come on Brandon getting down on his knees to blow Oliver then spurting his spunk onto a ratty carpet already riddled with old cum stains? How is that appealing? That is so not smexy. I don't like having to research acronyms.
If an author is going to use an acronym it would be helpful to know what the heck it stands for. I don't think so. Needless to say, I can't in good faith recommend this read.

I like K. Burn and the MCs she creates, despite this snafu, but I really hope the MIA back story is better developed if the series continues. As it stands, I don't know that I'm interested in reading on. View all 6 comments. Nov 07, Wende rated it it was ok Shelves: vamps , shapeshifter , sh-recommendation.
